In this episode, Mati and Dom explore the impact of urbanization on green spaces and talk with Mary Munroe Seabrook about why the Commodore Trail matters. To start off, hosts Mati and Dom kick things off with fun banter and good news—from a newly discovered pharaoh’s tomb to a court ruling protecting South Africa’s endangered penguins, and even a heartwarming dolphin welcome for returning NASA astronauts. Then they shift gears to discuss the rapid pace of urbanization, its impact on green spaces, and why trails like Miami’s Commodore Trail matter more than ever. Finally, they wrap up with a thoughtful interview featuring Mary Munroe Seabrook, co-founder of Friends of the Commodore Trail, who shares insights on advocacy, urban planning, and how communities can protect the spaces that keep cities livable.

About Mary Munroe Seabrook

Mary Munroe Seabrook is a fourth-generation Miami native and the great-granddaughter of Commodore Ralph Munroe, the namesake of the Commodore Trail. She grew up biking through the streets of Coconut Grove and has continued that tradition by riding with her two daughters to school since they were toddlers. With a professional background in public health and health promotion, Mary is a passionate advocate for the mental, physical, and environmental benefits of outdoor activity—especially on the Trail. She believes the Commodore Trail is more than just a path; it's a community connector that reduces traffic, cuts carbon emissions, and brings people together. Today, she lives just half a block from the Trail with her husband and daughters, and dedicates much of her time to improving and protecting this vital green corridor through her work with local schools, service organizations, and most notably, as a leader of Friends of the Commodore Trail.
